Dave Van Dusen, President of Swift, has maintained a consistent company vision focused on providing reliable, high quality delivery standards since he first started the company back in 1980. Dave and his strong management team along with their strategic network of associate agents, continue to introduce new operational processes and procedures designed to compliment existing service standards and expand present coverage areas.
Swift has now incorporated the latest in computer software technology whereby all customers can enjoy the most advanced ‘on-line ordering/tracking/reporting’ capabilities available. This state of the art MIS system provides customers with ‘on-line order’ capabilities taking mere seconds to complete for both local and out of town shipments. And with the introduction of new wireless two-way communication devices for the delivery fleet, providing real time ‘proof of delivery’ and ‘delivery status’ (shipment tracking), ensure customers can enjoy fast management of their package shipping needs (see demo).
Swift’s team of inside support staff ensures its customers of the highest degree of customer support functions and information available in successfully shipping packages across town…the country…the world!
History
In 1980, Dave Van Dusen and his former business partner, shared a vision to start a delivery company which the business community could rely upon for consistent, quality service. Swift Messenger Service commenced operations and fulfilled that vision and commitment and became so successful, that additional courier company startups were implemented and brought into the fold. Paragon International Couriers was started in 1984 while Ottawa Messenger was later borne in 1986 along with Queensway Courier in 1987, and together became a dominant courier powerhouse in the Ottawa Carleton region collectively known as The Swift Transportation Group.
In fact, Swift’s strength’s and success did not go unnoticed. In 1996 after 16 years in business, The Swift Transportation Group was purchased by a US publicly traded company, US Delivery Systems who in turn became Corporate Express Delivery Systems (CEXP). As the first international acquisition, The Swift Transportation Group was targeted by CEXP to head up its drive for national coverage within Canada due to its high service standards and superior management style. Aggressive expansion plans into every major Canadian and US centre, solidified Corporate Express as North America’s largest same day courier provider.
However, the Canadian expansion was not fully realized due to major shifts in the acquisition program at the US parent company and in 1999, Corporate Express sold off its entire North American courier division to a new US based public company called Velocity Express. In April 2005, Dave Van Dusen and his new business group, successfully bought back and repatriated the Ottawa branch and have returned to the company’s Canadian roots and branding history by naming their new company Swift Messenger Delivery Systems (Business Package Express).
